Brent Ramsey's Bio Minimize

Media production has been the only line of work I've ever done. My high school love for theatre and perfoming led me on my eventual career path. First in acting, and later in design, I attended one college and two universities on theatre scholarships -- Lon Morris College, The University of Michigan, and graduating from The University of Texas. Along the way, I took film classes whenever possible, eventually receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatrical production design. I immediately took these skills into television production.

I started as a production designer for a children's television series for PBS, Carrascolendas. I became the Art Director for the series and completed 52 half-hour episodes for that progam. I moved to New York City and worked for Time, Inc. in the Broadcast Division as a Regional Director of Operations where I managed twenty-seven hard working people and supervised a 24/7 closed circuit broadcast facility. We were largely responsible for developing and programming the pay-per-view television experience.

I relocated to the Washington, D.C. area to work on television projects funded by the Office of Education for the Corporation for Public Broadcastion and broadcast on PBS. At the Educational Film Center of Springfield, Virginia, I worked as the Art Director and Associate Producer on twenty-eight, half-hour programs that were all shot on film.

An associate convinced me to move to Denver, Colorado and help build a new regional production facility specializing in shooting and editing television commercials. The company we built, Telemation Productions, modeled after an existing facility in Chicago, shot film and tape, had the latest cameras and equipment, a large sound stage, a scenery shop, a location production truck, a grip truck, and several state-of-the-art editing rooms. Starting as the Art director, I quickly worked my way up to Producer/Director. Telemation was a wild facility: They billed for production by the hour. We would walk around with folders in our hands containing scripts and work orders for several shoots we would often do in one day. It gave me a chance to work on every sort of shoot imaginable -- valuable experience I still call on today. I worked there six years and probably shot three to four hundred commercials a year (I may be underestimating).

After getting the chance to direct production, I felt I wanted to shoot it myself, also. When I was ready, I assumed the duties of Director of Photography, as well. To facilitate that transition, I quit Telemation and started my own company, Brent Ramsey Productions, which had no problem giving a beginner DoP an opportunity to shoot. I operated Brent Ramsey Productions in Denver for fourteen years.

My proudest moment came when I won a Clio and an IBA (International Broadcast Award) for a micro budget shoot, "Waterworld/Jake" that I shot it in my own house. I filmed it on just 800' of 35mm film and edited it myself at the advertising agency's offices. Check it out in the media player on the Home page of the website.

Now independent, I work freelance as a Director, Director/Cameraman, or a Director of Photography. Recently, along with my continued commercial work,  I have shot network programs like ESPN's Depth Chart:Oklahoma State, segments for Fox Sports NFL Pre Game Show with Frank Caliendo and Pam Oliver, Football Night in America for NBC, and the SPEED Channel's The Car Show with Adam Corolla and NASCAR Race Hub.

I have worked alongside outstanding Directors like Bob Gordon as a 2nd Unit Director and Director of Photography. Besides working in almost every state in the US, I have shot in China, Thailand, The Philippines, Macau, Africa, Canada, The Caribbean, Europe, South America, and New Zealand.
